Irish Schools’ Track and Field Championships 2022

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Jenna Breen, Year Fourteen, who rounded off her school career by securing an impressive silver medal at the Irish Schools’ Track and Field Championships, held in Tullamore on Saturday 4th June.

Jenna, competing in the Senior Girls’ 200 metres event, attained second place in a time of 25.55 seconds to claim her fifth Irish Schools’ medal in all, having previously won gold in the Intermediate Girls’ 300 metres event in 2019 and secured silver in both the Junior 100 and 200 metres races in 2018, as well as the Intermediate 100 metres in 2019.

As well as Jenna’s success, Grosvenor’s medal tally was doubled by its Intermediate Girls’ 4 x 100 metres relay team, comprising Year Twelve pupils Eva Wainwright, Mia Fergsuon, Ellie Burgess and Amelee McCullough, which collectively completed one lap of the track in a personal best time of 50.73 seconds to claim an impressive bronze medal.

Completing Grosvenor’s representatives on the day was the aforementioned Mia Ferguson, this time competing individually in the Intermediate Girls’ 100 metres event, who followed up her Ulster Schools’ gold medal by placing 6th, again in a personal best time of 12.95 seconds.

Well done to each of Grosvenor’s athletes on their impressive performances, despite the elite standard of opposition on the day – it was a fantastic finale for Jenna whose outstanding accomplishments will no doubt stand to inspire many younger GGS pupils in the years to come.
