NCH Essay Writing Competition 2019

Esther Bailie

Congratulations to Grosvenor Grammar School pupil Esther Baillie, Year Fourteen, who recently excelled in the prestigious ‘NCH (New College of Humanities London) Essay Writing Competition’, open to participants throughout the U.K.

Having heard about the competition last October, Esther had the choice of essay titles based around seven different humanities-based subjects. Choosing Politics as her subject, with the title: “What can be done to increase voter turnout at elections?”, Esther submitted her work in January and was informed in May that, from an initial 3600 entrants, she had been short-listed down to the final 150 – the only competitor from Northern Ireland to achieve this.

As a result of her selection, Esther was invited to attend the competition’s Awards Ceremony, held on Tuesday 25th June in London. Although just missing out on the top awards within her category, Esther was fortunate enough to receive a goodie bag, presented to her on the evening by the esteemed Professor A.C. Grayling, which featured a £20 Amazon voucher as well as a ‘Highly Commended’ award certificate.

Well done to Esther on her impressive performance in this elite, keenly-contested event; all at GGS are incredibly proud of her achievements and wish her the best of luck in her future academic endeavours.
