NYCNI Easter Girls’ Choir

Congratulations to Grosvenor pupil Amy Patton, Year 11, who was recently selected to participate in the National Youth Choir of Northern Ireland’s (NYCNI) inaugural girls-only training course.

Talented Amy, who is a member of Grosvenor’s Senior Choir and the esteemed Belfast Philharmonic Chamber Choir, as well as holding Grade 6 in the violin and singing regularly in her church, found the course hugely worthwhile and hopes to take the skills learnt during its three days into her future musical endeavours, both within school and beyond.

The course, which ran virtually over the Easter holidays, saw Amy working under the direction of Andrew Nunn, the Choir’s esteemed Artistic Director, as participants were placed in different groups in order to learn their parts for selected pieces ‘Under the Greenwood Tree’, ‘Homeward Bound’ and ‘I Remember’.

During each of the three days, Amy also had the opportunity to work one-to-one with Fiona Flynn, a professional soprano, who helped her with various aspects of her singing and taught her a number of new, most worthwhile, vocal techniques. Amy is now in the process of recording one of the songs that she worked on with Fiona, ‘The Water is Wide’, which will hopefully be included on the NYCNI website in due course.

Well done to Amy on her latest of many successes as she continues to excel in the musical arena.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
