Skyes sprints to success

Congratulations to Grosvenor sprinter Adam Sykes, Year 14, who recently secured victory at both the Irish Milers’ and Lisburn Invitational track and field meets, each held at the Mary Peters Track at the end of May.

The Lisburn Invitational, held on Saturday 22nd May, saw Adam storm home in an impressive time of 10.96 seconds in the Mens’ 100 metre ‘B’ race, while, in the 200 metres ‘A’ race, he again performed impressively to secure fifth place in a time of 22.5 seconds. Each of these results are particularly impressive given that Adam was competing against senior athletes in both races.

At the Irish Milers’ competition, meanwhile, held on Saturday 29th May, Adam again ran superbly to achieve first place in the Mens’ ‘B’ race, again against senior competitors; this time in an impressive 11.01 seconds.

It is great to see Adam, who secured a hat-trick of gold medals at the 2019 Ulster Schools’ Championships before going on to anchor his relay team to gold at the subsequent Irish Championships, continuing to perform so well.

Well done to Adam on these impressive performances; we wish him the best of luck throughout the remainder of the track and field season and beyond.
