Congratulations to the members of Grosvenor’s Under 13 boys’ and Under 19 girls’ teams who represented the School with distinction at the Ulster Schools’ Table Tennis Team Championship, held on Wednesday 5th February in Lisburn; performing superbly to prevail in their respective categories and be crowned Ulster Champions.

In the Under 13 boys’ contest the Grosvenor team, made up of Euan Hanna, Alfie Stone, Thomas Norman, Daniel Campbell, Adam Osborne and Josh Corbett, performed superbly to top its group with victories over Banbridge High School, Royal School Cavan and Ballymena Academy, before overcoming Monaghan Collegiate and Friends’ School Lisburn in the quarter and semi-finals respectively. As in the previous year, the team’s reward for its victories came in the form of an encounter against a strong team from Belfast High School in the final. Just as in 2019, the contest proved to be extremely close, with the scores sitting all-square at 3-3 following the individual matches. In the doubles match-ups, however, Euan and Thomas, as well as Alfie and Daniel, each won their respective matches to see the team prevail and crowned as the under 13 boys Ulster champions - a terrific achievement in what was a highly competitive category.

The Under 19 girls’ team, meanwhile, was made up of Lucy Craig, Lucy Johnston, Melissa Johnston, Emma Mackey, Rachel Kane and Liberty Molloy. Again, the girls performed outstandingly well, winning their matches against Royal and Prior, Monaghan Collegiate and Royal School Cavan Schools to be crowned under 19 Ulster Schools’ champions – another superb attainment and nothing less than this dedicated team deserved.

As a result of their respective successes, both of Grosvenor’s winning teams will now advance to represent Ulster at the Irish finals, due to be held in Dublin later in the season – all at Grosvenor wish them the best of luck for this event and, hopefully, they can go one step further and add the Irish titles to the Ulster Schools’ trophies that now sit proudly in the GGS trophy cabinet.
