Year 10 STEM Event
Well done to a number of the School’s Year Ten pupils who participated in a STEM event in the Technology & Design department on Thursday 16th June.
The event, hosted by Smallpeice Trust and funded by Thales, featured a total of 54 pupils who worked in groups to complete a series of challenges, such as: constructing the tallest paper tower, without using glue or tape, that would hold a weight without collapsing; creating a glider using a drinking straw and card to see whose could fly farthest; and manufacturing an electric-powered aircraft, with pupils preparing a presentation to showcase their aircraft design and explaining how they budgeted for it, as well as explaining the science behind their chosen wing profile.
Pupils' work was assessed throughout the day with team 'Maverick', comprising pupils Alistair Rea, Carson Hamilton, Gabriel Carson and Jack Ellis, announced as the overall winners. All pupils who participated will receive a CREST Discovery Award in exchange for the written reflective exercises that they completed on the day.
Many thanks to Smallpeice Trust and Thales, alongside Grosvenor’s Head of Technology and Design, Mrs McMillen, for making this most worthwhile event possible.
